BOMBARD THE HEAVENS

A mother wrote to me: I wonder how many prayers we have lifted up as parents of addicted children? And how many prayers others have lifted up on our behalf in an effort to do something, anything to support our both tender and strong parent hearts. How many prayers are lifted up, especially during those times when there is no clear answer to, “What do I do?”

My reflection: When I was too beaten up by addiction’s blows even to pray, my mother prayed. I remember how she would tell me, “I put you on our church’s prayer list. My prayer group will flood the heavens for you and my grandson.” This gave me comfort and reminded me how much strength comes to us through those who never hesitate to ‘pray us along.’

Today’s Promise to consider: Whether I believe in the power of prayer or not, today I will send forth into the universe positive thoughts and energy for my loved one and all those who are suffering. I will bombard the heavens with requests for love and strength.

  • Just a general comment: I appreciate these Thursday emails SO MUCH! My son was doing well for a long time but had a near fatal overdose in April, and I am grateful that I have continued to receive these emails through the good times & bad. Always appreciated. xo

    • Thank you, Annette. Your comment means a great deal to me. God bless you and your son. I join with you in prayer for his total health and sobriety. My love to you both.

  • When I felt so powerless I know prayer helped me feel I was not doing “ nothin. “. Once my son said to me .. your prayers probably saved my life more than once. That is the thing .. even if our positive thoughts and prayers do not seem to matter ..it matters that we hope on. That we send those waves of love. Prayer to me is hope and love. Perhaps beyond our understanding they are still beams of light and make a difference in ways we do not know.

    • Dearest Joy, Your son felt your prayers - your hope and love - and that gave him strength. My son said a similar thing to me...."You believe in me more than I believe in myself." A mother's hope and love are so very powerful. As you write, "They are beams of light that make a difference in ways we do not know." My love to you, always.

  • My son has been clean for 2 years now, he is 31 and has a 1 year old son of his own, I pray for him and his family and my youngest son and his family every day, asking for strength and courage for them all and myself their mother. I also ask for all our guardian angels to be with us always and forever!

    • Dear Angela, God bless your son. He is living a healthy life for two years. This is a HUGE achievement. I join you in pryer for his continued courage and strength. Every day is a choice, and I, too, pray for my son in the same way. May our guardian angels be with them and us. Amen.
